Lavender & Black2018-01-13T00:48:45+00:00

lavender & black is a contemporary lavender farm on the north end of Salt Spring Island. Nestled between mature fir, arbutus and maple trees, the farm maintains it’s pacific northwest feel and has views over Stuart Channel. We grow 10 different varieties of lavender, helichrysum and other aromatic plants. Our first plantings were in May 2016. We keep adding to our fields and currently have approximately 4000 plants.

The farms’ first harvest and essential oil distillation will take place this summer (2017), and we will have our first batch of organic essential oils and hydrosols available to you. To find out more about when this is happening, follow our Facebook page. We finally opened our farm doors to the public in early May 2017 after a long, snowy winter. Anxiously looking out to see if all the plants survived the long wet cold weather. Thankfully most of the lavenders did, and some of the helichrysum are still deciding whether its hot enough for them…

why did we call the farm lavender & black?

Our product packaging is based on contemporary lines- simple and elegant black with minimalist labeling. Our light-filled studio, which was designed by Salt Spring architect Phillip van Horn, is also clad in black metal. As black is the backdrop for the products and lavender fields, we decided (after a fun-filled brainstorming evening with some friends) on lavender and black.
